CCTV 2

As you may have read in a previous blog I was invited onto a very big CCTV2 program similar to one in the USA and UK called “Sharks Tank” or “Dragons Den”
It was without doubt the most challenging program I have ever done, I was the only foreigner to go on the show so it was pretty scary. I did a lot of homework before the show, brushed up on my business Chinese and did my homework on the CEOs i was up against, one of whom was Tang Jun.
Here are some pics from the show which will air sometime in the next couple of months. I will post here when its online. The result of the show….well you’re just gonna have to wait and see but one thing I will say, I’m never doing one of these shows again, far too stressful but hey, always nice to let a few million know about the brand.

Beijing Cultural Heritage Protection Center Event

A couple of weeks back I was asked to decorate a miniature courtyard house for a fund raising event for the Beijing Cultural Heritage Protection Center (CHP). My particular piece I decided to plastered in Er Guo Tou labels, I purchased over 30 bottles of the good stuff and took off the labels with the help of our new intern from USA Connor and made this little beauty (see attached pics). On the inside I plastered the walls with original Chinese wall paper from the 1970s I bought in a 2nd hand market and the ceiling with similar stuff. On the floor I drew an outline of a figure (chalked man) to look like the man inside had died from excessive drinking.
I was unable to attend the event as I was away in Malaysia but I heard great things about the night. All the pieces were sold at silent auction and some lucky person bought my piece which is nice! Attached are pics from the event. I particularly like the one with the holes in it! Who did that one?

Shanghai Shop

After weeks of hard work our shanghai store is open! And I’m really happy to see that our first week of sales were very good. It was a big step for us, Plastered is a family owned business, we don’t have a lot of cash for expansion so it was a big risk so we’re really hoping the sales will continue to grow. We hope to hold a street/hu tong style catwalk show in Tian Zi Fang this summer, we’re just dealing with the local authorities. Here are some pics from the shop in Shanghai.

You can now get Plastered in Shanghai!

You can now get Plastered in Shanghai!

Plastered T-shirts has made a name for itself as China’s most creative and iconic t-shirt brand. Already a mainstay for Beijing youth and foreigners alike, the brand is now positioned to get Shanghai Plastered. In Beijing, the brand has always been pushing the boundaries of traditional t-shirt brands; they hosted the first ever hutong (alleyway) fashion show, host regular rock concerts, and are well-known for having the most cutting-edge designs in town.

Crawling in bed with the Kommunists on their Shanghai expansion, Plastered has opened a boutique neighbouring and partnering with the Kommune in Tian Zi Fang. Plastered’s Shanghai design network includes the uber-cool designer popil whose original artwork is now plastered on their t-shirts. The China-wide network includes tattoo artists, graffiti artists, and general creative-types whose artwork inspires the brand, and its customers. Plastered has created a line of Shanghai-specific t-shirts inspired by the sultriness and seductiveness of Shanghai. Plastered T-shirts is also known as the “one-stop-shop” for China’s rock n’ roll t-shirts having teamed up with China’s top rock bands to feature their artwork on t-shirts.

Expect new designs in the boutique every month; always fresh, always cutting edge. Also available at the boutique are Plastered’s classic China-wide best selling designs, retro zip-up sweatshirts, iconic coasters, and handbags.

A Good Event This Weekend

Zippo-2

The second of the 6 hot list nights with Zippo was last weekend. A really good sized crowd turned up and the bands were brilliant. Here are some pics of Rustic performing with their usually insane energy and performance. These guys are really a band to look out for. July 30th will be our next Zippo Plastered night where we will be showing off one of our new tattoo inspired designs that will appear on Zippo lighters and on T-shirts in our stores.

Beijing Municipal Chamber of Commerce

Wednesday was a surprisingly good day. England won their first world cup game and I was selected to become a member of The Beijing Federation of Industry and Beijing Municipal Chamber of Commerce. I was selected on Wednesday afternoon due to our commitment to the local community and for having an outstanding business. I’m very proud of this achievement and particularly like my membership card (see attached)

Zippo

The first of 5 Zippo Hot List nights that we are designing images for was a great night. Zippo used our skull design and we printed some special limited edition T-shirts for them. Our next design comes out in July along with another night of great local rock bands. I will post the dates here as soon as i know them. Here are some pics from the night.

Beijing Ri Bao

I love newspapers! Especially Beijing Ri Bao, I spent most of the day with a journalist from Beijing Ri Bao yesterday, a really nice lady and we talked about the last 4 years of Plastered and my life on Nan Luo Gu Xiang, here is the article that came out today. The lady in the picture with me had come all the way from An Hui to buy a Plastered T-shirt, a really nice lady with her husband, I was really touched they had come so far, I’ll sending her a copy of Beijing Ri Bao today to remind her of her journey to Beijing.
