Shanghai Tailors

Shanghai Tailors

In the 5 years I’ve lived on Nan Luo Gu Xiang I’ve seen a lot of change.

Most of the original businesses have moved on due to high rent prices into neighbouring Hu Tongs. But some have survived, one being the Shanghai Tailors on the corner of Nan Luo Gu Xiang and Ju Er Hu Tong.

The owners of Shanghai Tailors run their business out of their home - a 12sq/m room on one of the most pricey and trendy streets in Beijing - click through for photos and more.

Royal Debacle

Dominic and the award

I'm not that proud of this entry, a bit of a rock and roll moment to be honest. It turns out the only picture of all the winners of the awards with Prince Andrew was this one. Me flicking a V and looking very aggressive. Now the reason for this was I'd been waiting a while for the picture to be taken so in the end I flicked the V and that was the moment that got caught. So a bit of a dilemma for the organisers when sticking the picture in the paper.

What happened in the end? Click through to view the solution, and some more pics.

The Making of a Plastered T-shirt

Dominic Johnson-Hill, 2008-11-25

Here is a video I made with a good mate Martin from Hao Bu Hao. Simple idea was to show how an idea can drop from the heavens and end up being a really popular selling design. We made two "one off" t shirts during this video which you can win by sending an email to plastered.limited@gmail.com.

The beauty of Beijing to a simple man like me is its simplicity. The grid like roads rarely turn corners but rather head north-south-east-west, so finding your way can be quite simple. It’s also a very sexy city as our friend at Sexy Beijing Anna Sophie will tell you.

On that note I’d like to show you this design beauty I found in the Friendship store in San Li Tun. It’s a very clear map on how to get from the door, to the sex shop. The distance is approx 20 metres but with the help of this map you’re sure not to get lost when passing the mutton & beef stand and just past the DVDs. And once you get there ... products a plenty, if anyone knows what “men’s cup” is please email me.
